About Me

Peyton W. Avery is a fourth-year clarinet performance major at Oberlin College and Conservatory, where his work centers on using the arts to foster meaningful human connection. As both a performer and emerging professional, he is deeply interested in the intersections of higher education and arts administration, exploring how musicians can shape and sustain vibrant artistic communities. His studies in musicology and business complement his performance training, grounding his artistry in both critical inquiry and a practical understanding of the evolving music landscape. During his time at Oberlin, Peyton has grown into a more open and intentional artist, embracing curiosity, collaboration, and storytelling as pathways to connection and personal growth. Peyton will continue this work as a graduate student at the University of British Columbia, where he will study with Jos Franch-Ballester. Outside of music, he enjoys reading, brewing specialty coffee, bowling, and writing.
