About Me

I am Dr. Shimelis, an educator and researcher with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and MS and BS in Civil and Agricultural Engineering. My expertise lies in water and environmental resources, hydrology, hydraulics, soil mechanics, and fluid mechanics and related fields. I specialize in tutoring engineers preparing for FE Civil and Environmental, PE Civil Water Resources and Environmental, PE Environmental, PE Civil Construction, PE Civil Geotechnical exams. Six of my students recently passed their PE exam (PE Civil Water Resources and Environmental, PE Civil Construction and PE Environmental). Also Recently, three of my engineers passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Civil exam. My other focus areas include Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Science, and core Civil and Environmental Engineering subjects, particularly at the college and graduate levels. Throughout my academic career, I have published more than 115 peer-reviewed journal papers, books, and book chapters during my tenure as a professor. My teaching philosophy centers on collaboration, adaptability, and creating an engaging learning environment that encourages active participation, ensuring students gain the most from their educational investment. I have a diverse range of interests that keep me energized and engaged outside of my professional commitments. I am an passionate reader, often immersed in books that span from academic texts to enriching literature that broadens my understanding of the world. Staying active is equally important to me; I enjoy walking and jogging. Regular workouts at the gym are part of my routine, helping me maintain physical and mental wellness.
