About Me

I am Professor LaChe'e Payne. Let me tell you a few things about myself. I have a Master's Degree in Geography from the University of Iowa "Go Hawks!" and earned hours toward my Ph.D. in Geography, emphasizing Political and Cultural Geography. Most Geographers have a geographical area of study. My area is West Africa and the southern region of the United States. Most Human Geographers also claim an area of interest. My interests are mainly in urban and political geography. I also hold a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Prairie View A&M University. One interesting fact about me is that I have traveled to Nigeria for ethnographic research on small resistance movements in transitional democratic countries. One fun fact is that I have worked with the National Forest Service in Northern California. While with the Forest Service, I worked to contain a wildfire in Shasta National Forest and flew in a helicopter with Forest Firefighters searching for small burns on Shasta Mountain. During my tenure as an educator, I have advised and mentored numerous students. I have been blessed to see them become successful and accomplished in their chosen fields. I continue to be a mentor, confidante and advocate for students and their parents from nontraditional backgrounds in hopes of obtaining the knowledge and skills they need to fulfill their dreams.
