About Me

I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Reading from SFASU, and my Master of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from UNT. Then I went on to complete an additional 33 hours in Change Leadership at UNT in order to obtain my Educational Leadership certification. Currently, I have the following Texas teaching certifications: 1-8 All Subjects 1-8 Reading PK-4 All Subjects EC-12 Special Education EC-12 Principal I have been in the field of education in Texas for years. The first 8 years of my career were as a classroom teacher in Plano ISD; then I moved into leadership, serving as an Assistant Principal Principal, Coordinator, and Director at various public, charter, and private schools. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to serving students and families of under-represented and disadvantaged populations. Currently, I am working as a Contractor/Consultant with various schools to support professional development, compliance activities, tutoring, and staffing. At this time, I am tutoring English Language Arts & Reading to students in grades 2-6 and Math to students in grade 2. In the past, I have tutored students in grades 1-10. While I am able and willing to tutor a broad range of subjects and grades, I am most passionate about English Language Arts & Reading, Special Education, and English as a Second Language/Emergent Bilingual in the elementary and middle school grades. Teaching Math, Science, and Social Studies can be delightful fun as well though, especially Science! While more than half of my career has been in leadership roles, I have never deterred from my primary goal: To make a positive difference in the lives of students, teachers, and families. I continually strive to meet this goal, directly-through tutoring and family advocacy, and indirectly-by supporting organizations in meeting state and federal requirements as well as in meeting diverse student needs. I measure personal efficacy and worth by how much I have contributed toward that goal each year. I firmly believe that education is the answer to all of the problems and conflicts in the world, and I am passionate about making a positive impact. Philosophically, I believe in creating strong relationships, in facilitating life-long learning and a growth mindset, in building resilience, perseverance, and confidence, and in helping others to experience the joy of learning and growing. On a personal note, I am the mother of three children: Twin boys who are 18 years old, and a daughter who is 19 years old. I have been married 25 years to a brilliant and kind biologist. We enjoy spending time together and with our large extended family across the DFW metroplex.
