Syd

- I did my Ph.D dissertation research at the Oak Ridge National Lab.
About Me
I then spent 30 years in the semiconductor industry. After retiring I went on to teach physics and math for 7 years at a community college in Phoenix AZ. I really enjoy helping students to not just learn the theory but how to apply theory to solve problems. This often involves organization skills. I know many students wonder why they have to learn certain math and science skills, I feel it is part of my job to show them how to apply these skills in a future job or just in everyday life. If the student is interested I can also discuss how to succeed in a high tech, highly competitive work place like the semiconductor industry. I can tutor a wide range of physics and math topics but I really enjoy the first two semesters of University physics and university algebra. This is because I believe a solid foundation in these subjects is critical to learning topics that follow. Advanced topics in both physics and math build on previous courses so a solid foundation is critical.
Hobbies & Interests
My currnt hobbies include 1. Bicycle ridingI have ridden several centuries and metric centuries in the past, but today I just enjoy getting out and getting fresh air and evercise. 2. I really like hiking, especially in some of the national parks where you need to get off road to enjoy the scenery. 3. I like attending plays and have theater tickets to Broadway in Tucson. 4. I am just starting to learn more about astronomy. I have joined the Tucson astronomy club. 5. I have 2 German Shepherd puppies I am training to be family pets.
