I recently graduated from Cornell University in May 2014. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Business. Math and Science have always fascinated me because of their applications to the technology we use in everyday life. As a tutor, these are my favorite subjects to work with because they involve definite answers that are firmly rooted in logic. My mission in helping students with these subjects is to show them how to break down complex problems into simple steps. This methodology will enable them to not only succeed in courses and on standardized tests, but also to develop an analytical mindset that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Outside of my academic life, I enjoy weight lifting, soccer, playing guitar, and reading fiction.

I am currently an undergrad at Vanderbilt University, majoring in Mathematics and Political Science. I have been tutoring students since high school, mostly in science and math. I've found that STEM courses are intimidating to many students, and I hope to get rid of that fear and promote an appreciation for numbers and the sciences. In my tutoring, I focus on helping students understand the concepts beneath the problems, so as to facilitate learning rather than memorization. I strongly believe that every student is capable of reaching a strong level of understanding in any subject, given the correct tools, a teacher who can offer what they need, and some hard work.I am also available for standardized test prep. The SAT and ACT are one of the biggest hurdles in the college admissions process, and a score can make or break an application. Luckily, students can prepare for these tests fairly easily - repetition, time-management, and concept-review are all most students need to improve their scores, and I am happy to teach them how to do it.In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running, reading books about international politics and history, watching TV and movies, and listening to music.

For the past few years now, I have gained an extensive amount of experience teaching science in a variety of classroom settings. I am currently an undergraduate of Endicott College working towards my Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biotechnology. My coursework in biology has led me to explore the many different fields that exist in modern scientific research and is also an asset that provides me with a firm basis for tutoring other science-related courses. I have assisted a great deal of students in reaching their academic potential by relating what they have learned in the classroom to the natural world that surrounds them. This essentially builds curiosity and creativity, which also allows them to be more engaged when learning new material. With my experience in developing lesson plans and working with students both in large groups and individually, I am a firm believer that all students have what it takes to succeed. It is just a matter of determination as well as finding the right learning style that is most effective for them.

I currently support a Harvard undergraduate in her writing intensive courses. I strive to bring gentleness and compassion to every tutoring session. I enjoy helping a student who may feel anxious or upset about an essay or reading task to feel confident and relaxed. It's wonderful watching the burden lift from their shoulders! I learned Spanish while living as an exchange student in Ecuador the year before I went to college (1989-1990). I became fluent during that time. I worked as an Assistant Teacher to the Spanish Department while studying at Davidson College and enjoyed getting to know the students & expanding their understanding of the Spanish language & the Latin American culture. I had the privilege of studying in Spain during my Junior year, which deepened my appreciation for the roots of the language. I worked as a Spanish/English interpreter for the Orange County courts as my Summer job during those years. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share what I learned.
