Summer Tutoring review by Melissa in West Jordan, UT
The student and I worked a little bit on his English sources for his nonfiction assignment, then we spent quite a bit of time doing the research for his biology project. He has a few other small assignments for some other classes and also a quiz at the end of the week. We studied a little bit for this quiz from the handout he completed in class.

Summer Tutoring review by Rachel in West Jordan, UT
Today we covered the math, science, and social studies portions of the exam. The student struggled with understanding questions presented to him, so we worked through each question together, in order for him to better process what he was reading. As a result, he showed great improvement over past sessions. He still struggles with answering short-answer questions. We will continue to work on improving these skills in future sessions.

Today, the student and I prepared for his physics quiz and worked through his math homework. His physics quiz will focus on definitions, so we created flashcards and practiced those. We identified commonalities between some of the definitions to cut down on rote memorization and improve his understanding of the subject as a whole. His math homework was focused on applying trig identities to prove equality. He has a strong intuitive sense for how to apply the identities.

The student worked on science homework. He looked through notes online and papers to find definitions for science vocabulary words. He was very focused. Then he worked on his reading log; he read 1 chapter and summarized it in his own words. I helped him type. Then he worked on math. He scored 91%.

Summer Tutoring review by Samantha in West Jordan, UT
Today was my first session with this student. She is a very personable, fun, talkative girl. We focused on reading and spelling today. She was positive the entire session and had fun reading Dr. Sues. I showed her a few ways to study her spelling words, like writing them out in bubble letters or squiggly letters on her whiteboard. I would like to instill some sort of reward system with her to keep her on task. Overall, the session went very well. I think that we will have fun, productive sessions in the future.

Summer Tutoring review by Liz in West Jordan, UT
The student and I did a little bit of research for his Biomedical Tech debate. We looked both at reasons why animal testing is necessary and potential arguments against it that his group might face. We also reviewed his math homework on calculating the z-score. He understands how to calculate the z-score and interpret it using a normal curve. He uses his normal curve reference sheet to help ensure that he uses the correct percentages for different standard deviations. He also can explain why the value on the z-score conversion chart is slightly different from the one you get when using a calculator.
