Some people can naturally figure things out without a lot of explanation. In most things, I'm not that guy! Like many students, understanding comes with repetition of principles and hard work. I have the perspective of a student trying to understand, not a teacher trying to preach. I love working with people from the ground up; we start at the comfort zone and work our way to improvement. I know I don't know everything, so I'm excited to learn as well!

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Applied Physics. After finishing my degree I am planning on pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates.

My primary goal is to help students become independent, comfortable, and confident in the fields they are studying. I love helping people get to the "aha" moment when they really understand what's being taught. In my experience, one of the most important parts of tutoring is setting clear expectations at the beginning and working toward a common goal. Given the right goals and assistance, I truly believe that anyone can master any of the subjects I teach.

I am a student at the University of Utah majoring in Mathematics, and I am loving every minute of it. I plan to go Medical School, but I chose Math as my major because it has been a love of mine since elementary school. My favorite part of the week is when I volunteer at the Best Friends Animal Society, and during my free time, I like to read and hang out with my friends. During my time as a tutor, I have found that I love to teach and encourage students because it reminds me of the support that I have day to day as I follow my ambitions.

I pay attention to whether they are an audio, visual, or kinesthetic learner, and then I tutor accordingly.I am currently a junior at Brigham Young University. I am an Applied & Computational Mathematics major with a concentration in Electrical and Computer Engineering: Circuits. I have earned the high in many of my math and physics courses. In addition, I placed third in my university's undergraduate math competition while only a freshman.When I am not doing math or physics, I enjoy farming, inventing, origami, blogging, basketry, hiking, and building bagpipes.

Ever since I was a little girl I always was ready to help other students when they struggled to learn new things. I loved seeing the light turn on as they realized that they were able to figure it out, they just needed to be pushed in the right direction. This love has naturally led me to be both a tutor and a teaching assistant while I work on my bachelor's degree in Applied Statistics and is what lead me to find Varsity Tutors. Although my major is very math heavy, I myself have a great love for literature and art so much so that I'm minoring in Interdisciplinary Humanities in order to stay well rounded. Because of this, I don't have a favorite subject to teach so much as an overall love of the learning itself but if I had to pick one, Statistics is probably my favorite to help teach students because it's something I find so deeply interesting.

I specifically have experience with students with ADHD. I myself was diagnosed with ADHD as a sophomore in college.I have a very interactive approach to tutoring and ask a lot of my students. The more involved they are in the learning process, the more confidence they gain, which leads to a lot more learning than listening to a lecture.
