Study Strategies

Asking and Answering Questions

Be Curious as You Read!

Great readers ask questions while they read. Wonder about what's happening, why characters do things, or what words mean. Then, look for answers in the text or think about your own ideas!

Ask 'Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How?'

  • Try to answer your questions as you keep reading.
  • If you don't find an answer, talk to a friend or teacher!

Asking questions keeps you interested and helps you understand better.

Examples

  • You wonder why a character is sad and look for clues in the story.

  • You ask what a new word means and use context clues to figure it out.
