I am a book author and cultural anthropologist with college classroom teaching experience in the social sciences. I have helped academics and college and graduate students with essays, theses and papers with a focus on bringing out their strongest ideas and making their writing accessible and clear to the reader. I have experience working with people whose first language is not English and recently helped turn papers that had been rejected for publication into articles published in the best journals in their field.I enjoy empowering students to do their best work by breaking down the work of writing into achievable steps. It's exciting to help them discover and bring to light the ideas that are often buried in their notes and thoughts.

I first became interested in Chinese language, history, and culture when I watched Once Upon a Time in China starring Jet Li in high school. Although now I realize that the movie was in Cantonese, back then I was fascinated by the country and decided to start learning Mandarin in college.I have been studying Mandarin for 6 years. I received my BA in Asian Studies from the University at Buffalo in 2015. One year later, I obtained my graduate certificate from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center in China. In this program, I attended 7 classes on various academic subjects in which the language of instruction was Mandarin.While still a student of advanced Mandarin myself, I can tutor elementary and intermediate Mandarin, particularly with simplified characters. In my spare time, I write articles on developments in Chinese and Nepali relations on LinkedIn in both Chinese and English.Because Mandarin is one of the most difficult languages in the world, I take an engaging yet relevant approach to teaching. For example, I try to use equivalent sounds in the English language to practice pronunciation. I also describe images to help others remember the Chinese characters.I also enjoy playing the violin, video games, and different Chinese and Western card games.

I enjoyed studying several subjects particularly math and science. I pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Science at University of South Florida and now I am doing my medical internship to later specialize in pediatrics. I love working with young children. I started tutoring elementary students as an undergrad with Americorps, which gave me the opportunity to work with all ages from 6 yrs-18 yrs old. I tutored mostly in math, science, Civics and reading/writing. I enjoy helping people and a better way to help the youth achieve their academic goals is by tutoring them in a way that they can understand by breaking the subject down using examples to make it simple and clear to understand. I have few hobbies besides my books, I love drawing flowers and traveling. I visited few places in the Caribbean and I took the opportunity to take pictures of the most beautiful flowers i could find to later draw and frame them. I also like going to the movies, comedy movies are my favorite.

I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor's of Art in Sociology, and from Northcentral University with a Master's in Education. I have been teaching math and coaching football in Fort Worth for the past 8 years. My favorite part of teaching is helping student realize their potential. I believe in a growth mindset and high expectations. At my current school, I specialize in teaching the group of students who failed their 8th grade End of Course exam; I take this group and use high expectations and great relationships to help them pass their 9th grade Algebra 1 STAAR. Over each of the last three years we have improved our scores and put these students on track for a good math experience the rest of their high school career.Personally, I think that math is beautiful. We often overlook the wonderful patterns and relationships in mathematics and how they relate to the real world; I hope we can work together soon!In my free time I enjoy being with my wife and our daughter. We love to travel and go hiking.

My personal experience, teaching, research, and medical practice have allowed me to appreciate that medicine alone is effective only to a certain point. Despite the years of textbook knowledge and medical training, critically necessary foundations that allow physicians to recognize common symptoms of disease and provide medical therapy, there must be an understanding of how to apply this vast amount of information. I hope to help strengthen the knowledge of others and most importantly to assist in the ability to apply this knowledge in the medical field, which starts in the classroom.

I hold a B.S. in Biology from Creighton University (Omaha, NE) and a Ph.D. in Genetics from Indiana University Bloomington. I recently retired from a 25 year career in teaching college biology where I taught human biology for non-majors, introductory biology for majors, cell biology, genetics and biotechnology. I have experience in principles of active learning in which students construct their own knowledge through a variety of activities including concept maps, problem sets, and drawings. I love it when I see a student go from a look of uncertainty to clear understanding! I am looking forward to the opportunity to help high school or college students learn and apply concepts in biology and genetics!

I am a PhD student studying marine biology at Stony Brook University, where I study how plankton (very small animals in the ocean) move around and catch food. Before coming to graduate school, I did my undergraduate degree in Biology at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, MA. My hobbies include knitting, running, and, of course, reading!Another one of my long-term interests is education. I worked with preschoolers for a full year in college through an AmeriCorps literacy program in low-income preschools. Later, I worked as a teaching assistant for five semesters (three as an undergraduate, and two as a graduate student), teaching biology, chemistry, and environmental science. Most recently, I worked at a local tutoring center with students ages 7-16, tutoring reading/writing, English, and math. I have also worked with several high school and undergraduate student research volunteers in the lab.My favorite subjects are math and science, but I also love reading, writing, and French! I spent five months living in France during my undergraduate degree, and I speak near-fluent French. I love working with kids and young adults, and I'd be happy to work with you to develop study strategies and learn new things!

My reason for wanting to teach is purely to help change lives of students who are willing to learn and excel. I feel I can be in the best position to help students out by being a tutor for Varsity Tutors. My education from attaining a Masters in Biomedical Sciences and currently studying in a doctoral program to attain my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree qualifies me to have the ability to help these students excel in their subjects. Working in the past with students on their dental admissions test (DAT) and other teaching assistant jobs, I feel I can make a difference. My strengths are in the biomedical sciences field. I am confident to teach basic math and also mentor and teach students who want to attain a better score on the DAT.I have worked with children since high school. I have volunteered at multiple clinics and camps where I was exposed to children and taught how to mentor them.I feel I can be a great tutor and role model for these future students who are willing to learn and work towards their goals.

By focusing on students' incremental accomplishments, I empower them to attain more ambitious objectives. I have successfully tutored students in both virtual and in-person environments. Through my partnership with Varsity Tutors, I have expanded my expertise to encompass PRAXIS, OAE, GED, and various math and science-based subjects, catering to students across diverse age groups. As a graduate of Ohio University, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in Integrated Science Education. I furthered my education at Concordia University, obtaining a Master of Education with a major in Curriculum and Instruction and a minor in STEAM. Throughout my teaching career, I have witnessed students' growth and success, which remains my greatest passion.
