The main focus of this course will be to continue to learn more biotechnology skills and apply those to independent and group research projects. In addition, students will work with mentors from the professional community to complete a culminating project that will be showcased at the annual BioExpo competition hosted by Shoreline Community College (dependent on school). A field trip to explore the University of Washington Medical Center (depending on space availability) and/or local Biotech laboratories will also take place during the year. Opportunities for event preparation for HOSA will also be available in this course (there is an opportunity for students to take the Biotechnician Assistant Certification Exam through University of Florida and be awarded a certification that allows students to work as a biotech assistant straight out of high school).
