Language for Heritage Speakers of Arabic is a course designed for heritage speakers of Arabic who have already demonstrated a certain level of oral proficiency. The purpose of this course is to enable Heritage Language Learners to increase proficiency and bi-literacy in Arabic by providing opportunities to improve reading and listening comprehension, as well as writing and grammar skills. Special attention will be given to grammar and vocabulary of the standard language (MSA), as well as the importance of biculturalism and bilingualism in the United States today. Language for Heritage Speakers of Arabic Year 2 (2192) Classification: Heritage Arabic I Prerequisite: Written and/or oral placement exam in Arabic Open to: 9, 10, 11, 12 Credit: 2 RW Language for Heritage Speakers of Arabic Year 2 builds upon Language for Heritage Speakers Year 1. It is a course designed for heritage speakers of Arabic who have demonstrated some degree of oral proficiency. The purpose of this course is to enable Heritage Language Learners to increase proficiency and bi-literacy in their native language by providing opportunities to improve reading and listening comprehension, as well as writing and grammar skills. Special attention will be given to grammar and vocabulary of the standard Arabic language (MSA), as well as to the importance of biculturalism and bilingualism in the United States today.
