Woodbridge High – Fitness & Strength

Fitness & Strength is a second level Physical Education course designed for students who have a strong desire to gain an understanding of and practice principles of strength/weight training, conditioning, and physical fitness. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively enhance their muscular strength, endurance, power, flexibility, and overall fitness. Topics include exercise physiology, biomechanics, injury prevention, nutrition for performance, and designing fitness programs. Students will participate in a highly structured weight training program, create personalized training programs, and track progress through fitness assessments. The course fosters a lifelong appreciation for fitness, discipline, and healthful living. This course contributes to the development of all eight required areas of Physical Education as mandated by the California Department of Education: dynamic health, mechanics of body movement, aquatics, individual sports, gymnastics, team sports, dance, and combative. Upon completion of the course students will be able to: - Identify and apply the principles of biomechanics necessary for the safe and successful performance of weight training.
