Winters Mill High – Drawing

This honors level course is specifically designed for the advanced art student. It explores the elements of lines on a college level. Students will study concepts involving positive and negative approaches toward line, rendering, photo-realism, progressive composition, and the effects of light and shadow on form. Portrait studies, landscapes, still life and object rendering will be examined at great length. A variety of drawing tools will be explored such as pastels, charcoal, pen and ink, colored pencils, crayons, and drawing pencils. This course will benefit those who wish to develop their skills in drawing that are necessary for success in the studio or workplace. Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of two-dimensional artwork (useful to college or art school admission). Successful completion of this course will develop the student’s foundation portfolio in preparation for Advanced Placement Studio Art. Students should expect some financial responsibility for advanced art materials.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Art I or recommendation of the art instructor is a prerequisite.
