Winters Mill High – American Sign Language II

This course further develops skills in the context of American Sign Language. In this course, students will learn to use the vocabulary and syntax of a language very different and separate from English. They will also explore in more depth the American Deaf Culture as a distinct cultural minority in our society. The lesson structure revolves around active student participation and interaction in order to develop greater proficiency in ASL. Lectures, videotapes, guest speakers, and student projects will provide experience and information about deaf culture and deaf people's experiences. This course is for students serious about pursuing ASL beyond the introductory level and will prepare them for further study and proficiency.
Prerequisites: American Sign Language I.
