This course is for students who are highly motivated and interested in a rigorous social studies program. The purpose of the AAC social studies grade 8 course is to develop a deeper understanding of America’s history from Exploration through Reconstruction. Students will read extensively from primary and secondary sources, analyze issues and events, conduct in-depth research, prepare oral and written presentations, and develop projects based on individual and group research. The course will include writing for the purpose of historical analysis and help prepare students to take social studies Advanced Placement courses in high school. Outside reading may be required.
