Whitehaven High – Aquatics

This course is designed for students to receive Lifeguard and CPR training and certification. Students will be able to use this training in real-life situations, reduce the number of children who drown in public and private pools and provide at-risk students the opportunity to compete in competitive swimming. This course may be used as one of the cluster of elective courses for the Program of Study (POS) Human Performance or Athletic Management. This course will also be used to fulfill the .5 Physical Education requirements for graduation. Students enrolled in “Make A-Splash” or participates on SCS swim teams may receive credit for their participation. # Human Growth and Development Grades 10-12 One credit/One year Perquisite(s): None Health Components Emphasized: The student will demonstrate knowledge of and appreciation for the family in its many and varied forms as the primary source of identity and self-esteem for its members. This course is a yearlong, co-educational, heterogeneously grouped academic class. It provides for an examination of the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and psychosexual components of human growth and development from birth to death. The course was designed to be a unique opportunity for serious consideration and discussion of human sexuality within the framework of the study of human development. Students receive information to help them acquire skills necessary to their future as individuals, family members and members of society. Central to the curriculum is the nine-week adolescence unit.
