This elective course examines fundamental human rights issues which emerge within diverse societies. Themes of study include the nature of prejudice, stereotyping, bias, and discrimination; individual and governmental responsibility; and the ways in which individual choices can both combat or promote intolerance. Topics of study include, but are not limited to: genocide, racism, xenophobia, religious intolerance, sexism, ableism, and homophobia. Students enrolling in this course should be open to reflecting on and examining their own identity, beliefs and worldview. Students will engage in course content through inquiry, discussion, collaboration and informed action.
