Westfield High – Health Informatics

Health Informatics is information engineering applied to the field of health care. This is essentially the management and use of patient health care information and deals with the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the use of information in health and bio-medicine. Disciplines include information science, computer science, social science, behavioral science and is applied to areas of nursing, clinical medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, occupational therapy, physical therapy, biomedical research and alternative medicine. This course offers an overview by providing students with the fundamental knowledge of the concepts of health informatics and how technology can be used in the delivery of healthcare. Students are provided a broad exposure to health informatics in topics including networking, information systems, security, and HIPAA. This is part of the Claude Moore Health Informatics Program.
