Westfield High – Advanced Placement Latin
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
The AP Latin course focuses on the in-depth study of selections from two of the greatest works in Latin literature: Vergil’s Aeneid and Caesar’s Gallic War. Students study the literary techniques used by Roman authors by reading Latin poetry and prose with historical and literary sensitivity. Students are encouraged to develop linguistic skills by engaging in multiple activities, including translating poetry and prose from the required-reading list, precisely and literally; reading passages of poetry and prose with comprehension; and analyzing literary texts in clear, coherent written arguments, supported by textual examples. Students who complete this course are encouraged to take the associated Advanced Placement examination and may earn college credit if a qualifying score is achieved.
