Westfield High – Advanced Placement Chinese Language and Culture

In this course, students study the use of language for active communication. Emphasis is placed on the development of the three modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive and presentational). The course is structured around six overarching themes: Beauty, and Aesthetics, Contemporary Life, Families and Communities, Global Challenges, Personal and Public Identities, and Science and Technology. Students use language structures in context and use them to convey meaning. The course promotes fluency and accuracy to facilitate the study of language and culture. Students who complete this course are encouraged to take the associated Advanced Placement examination and may earn college credit if a qualifying score is achieved.
Prerequisites: Chinese 4 or equivalency
