Westfield High – Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis

Prerequisites: Algebra 1 and Geometry This course provides an opportunity for students to develop understanding of the role of mathematics in the world around them. It is designed for students who have completed Algebra 1 and Geometry and may benefit from additional support in their transition to Algebra 2 and higher level mathematics courses. Within the context of mathematical modeling and data analysis, students will study functions and their behaviors, systems of inequalities, probability, experimental design and implementation, and analysis of data. Data will be generated through practical applications arising from science, business, and finance. Students will solve problems that require the formulation of linear, quadratic, exponential, or logarithmic equations or a system of equations. Students will be asked to collect and analyze univariate and bivariate data using a variety of statistics and analytical tools, including graphing utilities and other technology tools.
