West Clay Elementary School – LATIN II 1-2
Apr 2026 · 2nd Semester
Latin II, a course based on Indiana’s Academic Standards for World Languages, builds upon effective strategies for Latin language learning by encouraging the use of the language and cultural understanding for self-directed purposes. This course emphasizes the development of reading and listening comprehension skills, including the use of contextual clues to infer meaning and understanding longer written or oral directions. Students will address the presentational mode by presenting prepared material on various topics, as well as reading aloud to practice appropriate pronunciation and intonation. Although interpersonal communication is not an explicit emphasis of this course, opportunities may be provided for students to make and respond to requests and questions in expanded contexts, participate independently in brief conversations on familiar topics, and write cohesive passages with greater independence and using appropriate formats. Additionally, students will describe the practices, products, and perspectives of classical Roman culture; report on basic family and social practices of the target culture; and describe contributions from the target culture. This course further emphasizes making connections across content areas and applying understanding of the Latin language and culture outside the classroom.
