This course satisfi es the state required physical education credit, if needed. # AIR FORCE JROTC 2 (375201CW) & 3 (375301CW) - Year 2 & 3 Fall Prerequisites: Air Force JROTC 1 This course will be a part of several distinct courses, scheduled alternatively each year: Science of Flight is designed to acquaint the student with the aerospace environment, the principles of fl ight and navigation, and the human limitations of fl ight. The course begins with a discussion of the atmosphere and weather. Subsequently, the eff ects of these on the human body are discussed. Discussions then focus on the forces of lift, thrust and drag and the basics of in-fl ight navigation. Leadership curriculum is also taught and stresses communication skills. Written reports and speeches complement the academic materials. This course satisfi es the state required physical education credit, if needed. Survival will provide training in skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to successfully perform fundamental tasks needed for survival. An appreciation of these skills will help the student to develop confi dence and reduce mental and physical stress. A three-day “hands-on” camping trip is off ered as the fi nal exam. As an option, cadets may take a written fi nal exam. The leadership curriculum focuses either on Life after High School, such as applying to college, preparing a resume, fi nancial responsibility and applying for a job. Alternatively it will focus on communication skills. Written reports and speeches complement the academic materials. This course satisfi es the state required physical education credit, if needed. FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone course FAA regulations, airspace classifi cations, weather, and other knowledge needed to pass the Part 107 drone pilot exam for commercial use. Key topics include understanding airspace and how to read sectional charts, weather eff ects, pre-fl ight procedures, emergency operations, and the legal responsibilities of a remote pilot. The Leadership portion will follow either the Life after School curriculum or the Communication Curriculum # AIR FORCE MILITARY SCIENCE 2 (358601CW) & 3 (358701CW) - Year 2 & 3 Spring Prerequisites: Air Force Military Science 1 The second term will concentrate on one of two distinct courses which will be taught alternatively each year: Intro to Robotics: This engaging robotics course starts with the basics of the VEX V5 Kit, teaching the function of each component and simple construction techniques. Cadets will build progressively more complex structures, learning to create sturdy, functional, and mobile builds while exploring how physics plays a role in their construction. This section peaks with the Capstone Challenge, where Cadets will use their new skills to design and build a prototype of a new product and pitch their design. Intro to Rocketry: The scientifi c, technological, engineering and mathematical foundations of rocketry provide exciting classroom opportunities for authentic hands-on, minds-on experimentation. The activities and lesson plans contained in this course emphasize hands-on science, prediction, data collection and interpretation, teamwork, and problem solving. The course also contains background information about the history of rockets and basic rocket science. The rocket activities in this course support national curriculum standards for science, mathematics and technology. The topics covered are: A Pictorial History of Rockets How Rockets Work, Applying Newton’s Laws, Rocket Activities, Pop Can Hero Engine, Heavy Lifting, Newton Car, Rocket Races, Pop! Rocket Launcher, Pop! This ground school course provides an advanced study of the previous aerospace topics. It serves as a foundation for students interested in qualifying for a private pilot license. At the completion of the course students should be able to take and pass the FAA written examination. The student is responsible for any examination costs. The leadership curriculum is the same as the Aerospace Science 3-6 courses. This course satisfi es the state required physical education credit, if needed. # AIR FORCE JROTC 4 (375401CW) - Year 4 Fall Prerequisites: Air Force JROTC 3 and attend Cadet Offi cer Leadership School The cadets lead the entire Corps during the fourth year. This hands-on experience aff ords cadets the opportunity to put theories of previous leadership courses into practice. Planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and decision-marking will be done by the cadets. They will practice their communication, decision-making, personal interaction, managerial, and organizational skills. The leadership curriculum focuses on cadet management of the Corps, to include holding positions of greater responsibility and the planning and execution of Corps projects. This course satisfi es the state required physical education credit, if needed. # AIR FORCE MILITARY SCIENCE 4 (358801CW) - Year 4 Spring Prerequisites: Air Force Military Science 3 and attend Cadet Offi cer Leadership School This is a continuation of AFJROTC 1 from the fi rst semester. # CADET LEADERSHIP COURSE – BASIC CADETS - Summer Course Prerequisites: Grades 10 or 11; AFJROTC 1 or 2 or instructor approval This one week course, conducted during the month of June at The Citadel, prepares JROTC cadets for leadership roles as offi cers in the cadet corps. The curriculum consists of at least 35 hours of academics and 24 hours of leadership training and involves physical training, uniform inspection, room inspection, academics, fl ight drill, parade, retreat, and athletics. # CADET LEADERSHIP COURSE – CADRE - Summer Course Prerequisites: Grades 11 or 12; Graduate of Basic CLC and instructor approv This one week course, conducted during the month of June at The Citadel, puts JROTC cadets in leadership roles as offi cers at the CLC camp. The curriculum consists of at least 35 hours of academics and 24 hours of leadership training and involves physical training.
