Astronomy investigates the structure, origin, and evolution of the universe. Topics include the solar system, light, stars, galaxies, cosmology, and space exploration. Students engage in observational labs using telescopes, data analysis from astronomical databases, and simulations of orbital modeling. At the Honors level, students are expected to have a deeper understanding of the content covered in class, and will explore topics in greater detail. Examples include advanced mathematical modeling of celestial motions and calculating orbital parameters and mechanics. This course nurtures scientifi c curiosity and analytical thinking, and supports pathways in astrophysics, aerospace, science communication, and space sciences.
Prerequisites: Biology Honors or Biology CP with an 85+
