Walkersville High – Physics, Algebra-Based Honors

Prerequisites: Math Grade 8 Honors (Algebra 1 recommended). Algebra-Based Physics meets the Maryland State Content Standards for Physics. It is designed to meet the needs of 9th grade students demonstrating high achievement at the Honors level. The essential curriculum mirrors the Physics 1 (194301) course and includes the study of: Kinematics, Dynamics, Conservation Laws, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Modern Physics, as well as Atomic Theory. Unit topics are explored using both conceptual and mathematical analysis that require the use of graphing techniques and algebra in problem-solving laboratory experiences integral to this course.

During my summers in college, I worked with EducationUSA Nairobi, an advising center for Kenyan students who wish to pursue higher education in the US. When I worked for them, I tutored high school graduates on SAT stuff and also helped them write better personal statements. After graduating from Duke last year, I started tutoring high school students in my neighborhood. I mainly taught math subjects such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Basic Math and Problem Solving but I'm well versed in Reading and Writing subjects as well. I'm vastly experienced and very patient with all my students. In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking etc.

I started peer tutoring in high school, staying after school to help fellow students with AP Chemistry content before major exams and quizzes. However my favorite subjects to tutor involve chemistry, due to the various real world examples that make the subject more comprehensive and ultimately enjoyable for students.
