Offered only at Career and Technology Center. This course introduces students to the basic technical know ledge and skills required to enter the field of residential and light commercial wiring. Basic electrical skills covered include: blueprint reading, estimating, circuit planning, electrical panels, rough wiring and finish work. Students are also introduced to the rapidly expanding field of “smart” wiring. Students build their skills by planning and actually wiring an actual house in the community. Emphasis is placed on completing the first year of the nationally recognized apprenticeship training and understanding the National Electrical Code requirements. Program completers are prepared to pursue entry-level employment as electrical apprentices and to continue their training in the four-year apprenticeship program. Students may receive articulated college credits upon successful completion of the program. Students are required to complete the National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) core, level one certifications for Electricity and OSHA certifications. Students who complete the program and their certification receive credit for one year of their NCCER apprenticeship. Local, state and national student skill competitions are available through Skills USA. Project Lead the Way: Engineering Completer Program The following PLTW sequence of courses introduce students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering prior to entering college. PLTW engineering courses are articulated with over 15 colleges and universities in the United States.
