The development of skills begun in the first year of German is continued. Greater emphasis is placed on oral proficiency, reading and writing in German. Knowledge of grammar is expanded, including object pronouns and most of the verb tenses beyond the present. Cultural information about people in German speaking countries and communities are taught through readings in the basic text and supplementary materials.
