In this course students explore spatialrelationships through the use of nonobjective,abstract, or representational forms, products, orstructures. Instruction may include, but is notlimited to, content in green or industrial design,sculpture, ceramics, or building arts. Processesand techniques for substitution include wheel-thrown clay, glaze formulation and application,or extruded, cast, draped, molded, laminated,or soft forms. Media may include, but are notlimited to, clay, wood, metal, plaster, papermaché, and plastic with consideration of theworkability, durability, cost, and toxicity of themedia used. 3-D artists experiment with andmanipulate space-producing devices, includingoverlapping, transparency, interpenetration,vertical and horizontal axis, inclined planes,disproportionate scale, fractional or abstractedrepresentation, and spatial properties of thestructural art elements. Craftsmanship andquality are reflected in the surface andstructural qualities of the completed art forms.Students in the 3-D art studio focus on use ofsafety procedures for process, media, andtechniques. Student artists use an art criticismprocess to evaluate, explain, and measureartistic growth in personal or group works.
