The major purpose of this course is to provide an orientation to the marine environment through a comprehensive view of the earth’s ecosystem. The course stresses the need to utilize marine resources wisely by providing individual and group opportunities for research through the investigation of disciplines within the marine sciences. Marine Science includes the study of the hydrologic cycle, physical and chemical properties of seawater, solar energy; the interactions of winds, waves, tides, and ocean currents; the seashore, deep sea geology, marine life, marine engineering and instrumentation, early explorations and discoveries, conservation of the ocean resources, and environmental concerns related to the ocean ecosystem. Marine Science AB meets the Grades 9-12 District physical science requirement. It also meets the University of California “f” requirement for an elective science class.
