This program is a year long elective course in which students are assigned to a research laboratory on the USC Health Sciences Campus and work two or more hours a day on a research project with an investigator in some area of biomedical research. While doing this, the student will learn to read and understand scientific journal articles, to perform experiments, collect data, analyze data and construct a scientific poster demonstrating the results of their research project. Finally, students will learn how to give a seminar presentation of the results of their experiments. The majority of time (Monday through Friday, 5th and 6th periods as well as after school at least two days a week) the students will be off campus at their assigned laboratory. Every other Friday, students will meet together on the USC Health Sciences Campus to either present or participate in a class seminar.
