The major purpose of this course is to provide advance training in the skills of debate; analysis of social, economic, and scientific problems; logical and clear thinking; and use of the rules of evidence, types of support, literacy style, rhetorical devices, and advanced research. Using language in natural, fresh, and vivid ways to establish a specific tone, students will gain experience in parliamentary, persuasive, and forensics. Students will enhance meaning by employing rhetorical devices, including the extended use of parallelism, repetition, and analogy; the incorporation of visual aids (e.g., graphs, tables, pictures); and the issuance of a call for action.
