University High School – Jazz Ensemble 3

\\* Jazz Band Students are required to enroll concurrently in a Band 1 – 6 course, with the exception of guitar, string bass, electric bass, and piano players. Enrollment concurrently in Band 1-6 will also involve mandatory participation in co-curricular graded marching band after school/outside of school rehearsals and performances. The purpose of this course is to develop the ability to apply the knowledge of styles and techniques of varied contemporary popular and jazz literature. The content shall include the study and performance of varied medium level popular and jazz idiomatic literature. Improvisation, characteristic tone, individual and ensemble performance techniques, and an appreciation of the history of jazz in the United States are emphasized and applied. Costs and/or fees may be required. After school rehearsals, performances, and/or instruction are a graded requirement of this course.
