College Preparatory Course (P). This course meets the University of California’s f (visual and performing arts) subject-area requirement. Film Arts is a course in visual and cultural literacy that prepares students to see and understand films as an artistic, aesthetic experience. Because of the unique characteristics of the film, this course combines approaches from the study of history, theatre, literature, and the visual arts. Students develop an understanding of the significant people, films, and innovations throughout the history of the art form, and analyze the fictional and dramatic elements of films, as presented though plot, structure, characterization, and theme.
