Students explore themes of linguistic and culturaldiversity by comparing, contrasting, analyzing, and critiquingwriting styles and universal themes. The students writeexpository, analytical, and response essays. A researchcomponent is critical. The students observe and listen criticallyand respond appropriately to written and oral communication.Conventions are essential for reading, writing, and speaking.Instruction in language conventions will, therefore, occur withinthe context of reading, writing, and speaking rather than inisolation. The students understand and acquire new vocabularyand use it correctly in reading, writing, and speaking.
