Timber Creek High School – Methodology for Academic and Personal Success (MAPS)

The course focuses on the skills and strategies necessary for students to make a successful transition into high school and an academic career. Students will explore the options available in high school, higher education, and the professional world to establish immediate and long-range personal goals. STUDENTS CAN ONLY OBTAIN 1 CREDIT FOR THIS COURSE. MAPS II, MAPS III and MAPS IV ARE FOR ZERO CREDIT. Making Connections I-IV (.5 credits per semester–up to four semesters) The Making Connections course sequence serves students who have an autism spectrum disorder or a related disorder such as social (pragmatic) communication disorder which causes them to have difficulty with social skills. The courses also assist the students with developing and generalizing appropriate and beneficial social skills and in turn increase that student’s postsecondary outcome. Making Connections I-IV assists the students in developing an understanding of autism and other related disorders. The course also assists the students in developing and generalizing appropriate and beneficial social skills and in turn increases that student’s post-secondary outcome. Should be considered after MAPS for students with IEPs who require specifically designed instruction in social skills and understanding of their disability needed for preparing for life after high school. ARD Committee Decision. Annual IEP goal required, and course added to schedule of services.
