From my experience teaching math to a range of students, from middle school through college, I know that it does not come easily to everyone. However, I firmly believe that everyone has the capability for mathematical reasoning. Everyone has their own strengths and challenges, and my job as a tutor begins with identifying these. I like to have students work through problems while I guide them and make suggestions, so that I can get a sense of what they understand and what they don't. Then we can build on their knowledge and break down the challenging parts of the problem into smaller, more manageable chunks. I hold a bachelor's degree from UChicago and a doctorate from MIT, both in mathematics. I am available to tutor Latin, physics, and all levels of math. Outside of academics, I am an avid tournament chess player, and I enjoy running and cycling.

I am a science writer and podcaster with a rigorous academic background who is passionate about sharing my knowledge of chemistry with curious minds. I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and Asian art history from UC Berkeley and completed a PhD in inorganic chemistry at MIT. I have five years of experience teaching college-level general and organic chemistry courses at various institutions in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas, and hope to expand on my experience as a private tutor. I graduated from Cornell University studying Biology and choosing to specialize in Neurobiology and Behavior. I have an extensive background in math and science. I was pre- med during my four years and I am currently working part time while finishing my final year of medical school. Right after graduating, I participated in City Year, an AMERICORPS education focused non-profit that partners with schools needing the most assistance. I led the 9th Grade academy where my job was to design tailored math and science curricula for 6-8 high risk academic students in 5 different classes. I provided attendance and behavior sessions for another group of students and I served as the Math Coordinator for my team. Since then, I have been working with Varsity tutors and offering academic assistance to other students in my school. Although medical school and tutoring occupy most of my time, I enjoy watching and playing basketball and soccer (futbol). I am a big fan of hip hop and the arts, as well. I have seen that the biggest challenge that prevents students from succeeding is a lack of self confidence. My mother is a part-time business owner, who couldn't operate a computer on her own until this year. When I was young, she simply decided that she was 'bad at technology' and it stuck. Eventually, my sister and I sat her down and gave her instructions on how to access the internet. The next day, we taught her how to use Microsoft word. We made sure that she focused on each skill alone and ignored everything else that seemed confusing. Two weeks later, she got the hang of it. I tutor by presenting the subject matter in a similar way while frequently setting attainable goals so that students will realize how easy it is for them to master subjects on their own. It is the same method I use to learn all of the challenging material I encounter every day. I look forward to meeting you and helping you build the confidence and skills necessary to succeed.

I've been a university professor for the past five years and have been tutoring for as long as I can remember. I began tutoring informally while I was still in high school, helping friends get ready for their SATs, helping them with assignments. I realized quickly that I was suddenly helping half of my school so I decided to make some fliers, and some money, and offer my tutoring to anyone and everyone in my hometown. Suffice to say, some odd years have gone by since then and now, even as a full-time professor, I find myself enjoying the experience of tutoring and helping students on an individual level enough to continue doing it. With a background in the sciences and mathematics, and a graduate degree in philosophy I'm incredibly well-rounded in terms of what I'm capable of teaching and moreover, have a generally positive pedagogical approach to everything; I really do love teaching. Even fields in which I have little experience become a contest with myself to master solely for the sake of helping a student. I have extensive experience in reading, writing, and editing (I've been published several times over as both head author and editor) and its something that I truly love to do. I currently hold three Undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Physics, and Linguistics, as well as two Graduate degrees in Philosophy and Theology. From basic English to advanced Banjo I look forward to engaging in any assignment that anyone may have for me!
