Thurgood Marshall Elementary – AP 2-D Art and Design
Apr 2026 · 2nd Semester
This is a college-level course in which students learn to use 2-D design principles to organize an image on a picture plane in order to communicate content. They demonstrate mastery through any two-dimensional medium or process, such as graphic design, digital imaging, photography, collage, fabric design, weaving, fashion design, fashion illustration, painting, and printmaking. They develop technical skills and familiarize themselves with the functions of visual elements as they create an individual portfolio of work for evaluation at the end of the course. To successfully complete the 2-D Advanced Placement exam, students must be highly motivated to finish the number of required works. It is ideal that students take an advanced art course such as Art III, IV, or Studio in the semester immediately prior to taking AP Studio 2-D design.
