Sunrise Mountain High School – Principles of Botany

This one-year course is designed as a survey of plants, with an emphasis on the wide range of studies from cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics. Topics also include the physiology, taxonomy, and ecology of the great diversity of plant life. This course fosters vital communication, critical thinking, and writing skills while involving the students in the process of science. Students are introduced to the specialties within plant biology which provide a basis for making career choices. Demonstrations and lab experiences that employ proper safety techniques are essential to this course. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfi lls one of the elective credits required for high school graduation.
