Barbering II is an extended course of study that enables students to become licensed barbers through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Barbering is one program of study that allows students to earn an industry certificate that launches them into a professional career immediately, yet also specifies rigorous core curricula that prepares the student to be successful in a post-secondary learning environment. All students must obtain a permit from The Texas Department of License & Regulations. This is a one-time fee and must be obtained before hours are accumulated. Students are also required to purchase a Barber Kit. This is a two-year course designed for students who would like to enter the field of cosmetology. This is a state licensing program in cooperation with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Students must earn 1,000 hours in theory and practical applications in the laboratory provided. Upon the satisfactory of the hours students are expected to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation State Board Exam to become certified as a cosmetologist. KHS, AHS, KPHS, & SCHS students may be transported to take the course. All students must obtain a permit from The Texas Department of License & Regulations. This is a one-time fee and must be obtained before hours are accumulated. Students are also required to purchase a cosmetology kit. Practicum courses are reserved for students who have completed a sequence of courses leading up to the practicum and who have the skills and foundation to be successful in a professional setting.
