Summer Creek High SchoolAVID IV Dual

Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester

The AVID 4 Elective class accelerates students into more rigorous course selections. Fourth year students are enrolled in a college preparatory sequence including the elective section of AVID where they receive the academic and motivational support to succeed by a trained AVID teacher. During the AVID class, students are coached by college tutors. The 12th grade AVID Elective course is the second part in a junior/senior seminar course that focuses on the writing and critical thinking expected of first- and second-year college students. Students will complete a final research essay project with research skills gained in their junior year in AVID. In addition to the academic focus of the AVID senior seminar, there are college-bound activities, methodologies, and tasks that should be achieved during the senior year that support students as they apply to four-year universities and confirm their postsecondary plans; this includes the application process for colleges, scholarships, and financial aid. All AVID seniors are required to develop and present a portfolio representing their years of work in the AVID program, as well as complete the requirements for the seminar course. AVID is available to Humble ISD students in sixth through twelfth grade, depending on acceptance into the program. All AVID students are required to enroll in at least one Advanced Academic course.Students in AVID 4 have the opportunity to earn 3 SCH college credits for EDUC 1300 through Lone Star College if grade criteria are met.
