A8500 is designed to extend AFJROTC student interests in all aspects of aviation while preparing students to take the formal ground requisite exam for the FAA Airman Knowledg\_e test \[which is required to obtain a private pilot's license\]. The rigor of the course challenges students with complex aeronautical, engineering, weather management and Judgement concepts The AFJROTC student must have SAS I/AS I approval prior to registering 12th grade.  SASI may waive this to 2nd year AFJROTC cadets who are in 12th grade. Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at McNeil High School Each course consists of an Aerospace Science portion (40% of course material), a Leadership Education portion (40% of course material), and a Health and Wellness portion (20%).  First year cadets must take #9301 prior to enrolling in other AFJROTC courses.Second-year cadets will be designated AS-II and be enrolled in #9302.  Third year cadets will be designated AS-III and enrolled in #9303, and fourth year cadets will be designated AS-IV cadets and enrolled in #9304.  After his/her first year in AFJROTC, each cadet will receive a different set of Aerospace Science, Leadership Education, and Health and Wellness curricula each year during their enrollment in AFJROTC.  Selected cadets assigned to leadership positions will manage the cadet corps.  Planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, controlling, and decision-making will be done by cadets. Aerospace Science: A Journey Into Aviation History                                                5301 Aerospace Science I (AS-I)                                                                        PEIMS:  #PES00004 GRADE:  9-12 AS-I, the introductory course level, is interspersed with concise overviews of the development of aviation, basic aeronautics, aircraft motion and control, flight power, and rockets. Cadets will practice elements of good citizenship and learn basic drill skills, in addition to physical fitness tests, calisthenics and team sports.
