This fourth sequence of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academicelective course that prepares students tocollege readiness and success, and isscheduled during the regular school day as ayear-long courses.Each week studentsreceive instruction utilizing a rigorous collegepreparatory curriculum provided by AVIDCenter, collaborative study groups, strengthenmetacognitive development, analytical readingand writing, communication skills, andacademic success skills. In AVID studentsparticipate in activities that incorporatestrategies focused on writing, inquiry,collaboration, organization and reading tosupport their academic growth. In the 2thgrade year, students will continue to refine theiracademic learning plans and goals, createlegacy projects including service learningprojects/mentoring, as well as develop anincreased ability to self-monitor, self-regulate,and manage time. Students will expand theirwriting portfolio to include: an argumentativeresearch paper on a social issue and detailedreflections lastly, students will prepare forcollege through the use of inquiry basedcollaborative study groups utilizing higher orderthinking questioning techniques.
