This second sequence of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academicelective course that prepares students forcollege readiness and success, and it isscheduled during the regular school day as ayear-long course. Each week students receiveinstructionutilizing a rigorous collegepreparatory curriculum provided by AVIDCenter, tutor-facilitatedstudy groups,strengthen metacognitive development,analytical reading and writing, communicationskills, and academic success skills. In AVID,students participate in activities that incorporatestrategies focused on writing, inquiry,collaboration, and reading to support theiracademic growth. In the 10th grade year,students will continue to refine their academiclearning plans and goals, increasing awarenessof their actions and behaviors, as well asdevelop an increased ability to self-monitor,self-regulate, and manage time. Students willexpand their writing portfolio to include:analyzing prompts, supporting arguments andclaims, character analysis and detailedreflections. Lastly, students will narrow downtheir college and careers of interest, based onpersonal interests and goals.
