Students explore the aesthetic foundations of art making using beginning photographytechniques. This course may include, but is notlimited to, color and/or black and whitephotography via digital media and/or traditionalphotography. Students become familiar with thebasic mechanics of a camera, including lens and shutter operation,compositionalfoundations, printing an image for display, andevaluating a successful print. Studentphotographers may use a variety of media andmaterials, such as 35mm black and white film,single lens reflex camera, digital camera,darkroom, computer application, filters, variouspapers, digital output, photogram, cyanotypes,Sabatier effect, and pinhole photography.Craftsmanship and quality are reflected in thesurface of the prints and the care of thematerials. Photographers use an art criticismprocess to evaluate, explain, and measureartistic growth in personal or group works. Thiscourse incorporates h and s-on activities andconsumption of art materials.
