Cambridge International AS and A Level Musiclearners develop an appreciation of, and aninformed critical response to, music of the Western tradition from at least two genres andperiods.Learners discover how to listen attentively andresponsively to develop a better underst and ingof the musical processes at work; they alsolearn how to communicate this underst and ing,supporting their judgements by evidence-basedargument.As part of the course, learners are encouragedto develop their own creative and interpretativeskills through the disciplines of composing andperforming in Western and/or non-Westerntraditions.This leads, in turn, to a deeperunderst and ing of music in its wider culturalcontext.
