In Principles of Engineering (POE,) Students will explore several areas of engineering throughout the course including thermodynamics, mechanisms, fluid power, electrical control systems, the strength of materials, statics, characteristics and properties of materials, quality control, review of the design process, material testing, and kinematics.  By exploring various technology systems and processes, students will learn how engineers and technicians use math, science, and technology within a design process to benefit the human race. CAD and other material testing simulation software are used frequently throughout the course. Hands-on, problem-based activities supplement the lessons provided within the curriculum.  This is a required course in the Engineering Pathway. \*NEW 25-26\* COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING 1-2(5534) Classification: PLTW, Pathway Option Prerequisite: Principles of Eng. 2 or Physics 1. Open to: 10, 11, 12 Credit: 2, Full Weight Computer Integrated Manufacturing is a course that teaches you how to take your design ideas and make them a reality through the application of the principles of manufacturing, rapid prototyping, robotics, and automation. This applied mechanical engineering-based course builds upon foundational 3D CAD solid modeling skills and expands them through finite element analysis (FEA), advanced assembly simulations, and computer aided machining (CAM). Students will learn about designing for manufacturing by prototyping their designs using industry-based equipment, including, woods laboratory equipment, metals laboratory equipment, welding, rapid prototyping, and computer numeral control (CNC) machines. Students will also be introduced to the fundamentals of robotics and learn how robots have transformed manufacturing.This can be used to meet the graduation requirements for the Engineering Pathway.
