Severna Park High – Honors Teaching as a Profession

This course focuses on the profession of teaching – its history, purposes, issues, ethics, laws and regulations, roles and qualifications. Emphasis is placed on identifying the current philosophical and social perspectives of American education. Students will explore modern teaching practices and pedagogy, conduct classroom observations and field experiences in multiple settings to further their pursuit of a career in education. They will continue to develop their instructional portfolio, working towards an internship as part of the Teacher Academy of Maryland CTE completer program. Available at Chesapeake, Glen Burnie, North County, Severna Park, and South River High School only. Prerequisite: Successful completion Child Growth and Development.
