This course combines movements from Yoga and Pilates. The focus of this class is on motor learning strategies, body awareness, stress reduction, breath work, balance, and functional movement. The student gains muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Areas of study include, but are not limited to, movement forms, movement concepts and principles, physically active lifestyle, physical fitness, personal and social behaviors, cultural awareness, and personal enjoyment. Reading, writing, speaking, and research strategies are integrated throughout the course. * * * SPECIAL EDUCATION Department Chair: Jennifer English Admission into all special programs is determined by meeting eligibility criteria. To the maximum extent appropriate, the student will participate in the general education program. The IEP Committee will decide the amount of time students will participate in special education, as well as modifications and/or adaptations that are needed in the general program. Special Education Academic Courses Grades: Note: The student must be receiving services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in order to take Special Education classes. The Special Education Department offers all required academic courses in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies in both, in a small-group setting and an inclusive setting (placement is determined by an IEP team). Special Education courses offer individualized instruction with the goal of preparing students to enter general education classes and to prepare for future employment and training. The IEP committee chooses a combination of general education and special education classes that best meets the needs and abilities of the student. (Courses listed will be offered upon need & determined through the Special Ed Department.) GIFTED
