Emerson said that the secret of education is respecting the student. I have the greatest respect for that part of the human spirit that is curious and wants to learn. I find that if students feel they are listened to and heard, this allows them to feel encouraged. I am a graduate of Brown University, where I earned my B.A. in Literary Arts and Visual Arts, taking courses in a wide array of subjects ranging from contemporary American fiction to ancient Indian classics. My first teaching experience came in college when I had the privilege of creating and teaching a series of literature courses at a local community center.
