Salem High School – Survey of Humanities

Course 04300 Grades 11-12 In this class students will explore the lives, times, and contributions of some of the great people in Western Civilization. This course is an introduction to literature, art, music, architecture and philosophy and the great people in Western Civilization. Emphasis will be on class discussion and creative written responses to the ideas presented. Some of the units include Early Man, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Middle Ages, Renaissance, modern art and architecture. There will be a field trip to a major local museum to allow students to observe the genuine artifacts throughout the semester and some hands-on learning.
